ArtCraft: Free Adobe Alternatives, App by App
ArtCraft’s “Crafting Apps” are 12 free, open-source desktop apps written in Rust that mimic familiar Adobe (and Office) tools: PhotoCraft (Photoshop), VectorCraft (Illustrator), FilmCraft (Premiere Pro), LightCraft (Lightroom), PdfCraft (Acrobat), EffectCraft (After Effects), DesignCraft (InDesign) and SoundCraft (Audition), plus WordCraft, DeckCraft, GridCraft and CADCraft. As of October 12, 2026, PhotoCraft and PdfCraft are early alpha and the rest are in development — try them, but don’t replace Adobe for client work yet.

How to get ArtCraft
- Go to the official ArtCraft apps page (getartcraft.com/apps).
- Install ArtCraft Launcher to get every app with automatic updates, or download a single app’s installer from its own page.
- Avoid third-party “ArtCraft download” mirrors — the apps change every few days in alpha.
Is ArtCraft really free?
Yes. The team says every line is on GitHub under permissive licences, the apps run locally on your own files, and there is no cloud subscription. Several apps also run in a browser tab via WebAssembly.
Should you switch from Adobe?
- Students and hobbyists: worth trying today, especially PhotoCraft for PSD files and PdfCraft for everyday PDF tasks.
- Professionals: keep Adobe for paid work until the apps leave alpha; test round-trips (open → edit → save → reopen) on copies first.
- Linux users: the big win — native builds of Photoshop- and Illustrator-style tools.
